A British tourist is fighting for his life after reportedly shooting himself in the head while playing Russian roulette. The 30-year-old man had allegedly been taking cannabis and nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas. He was with a Lithuanian friend when he allegedly shot himself.
His roommate said he was not involved in the alleged game of Russian roulette at the Soi Chaiyaphruek 1 complex in Pattaya, Thailand. He called the police after the Brit reportedly sustained the bullet wound to his forehead yesterday morning (8 Apr).
The police arrived at condo room number 1119 on the 11th floor to start their investigation, as reported by NeedToKnow. Police spokesperson Lieutenant Panasarn Krongsit said the victim was found sprawled on the floor in a pool of blood.
Paramedics carried out CPR on the Brit before taking him to hospital in a critical condition. Investigators seized a .38 calibre handgun with a single spent casing, according to reports. They also found cannabis, a tank of laughing gas, and several used balloons suggesting recent drug use.
The victim’s roommate told cops that the man had “used marijuana and inhaled laughing gas before losing his mind and inviting him to play Russian roulette”.
He added: “I was scared and didn’t dare join in. While I was lying down, I heard him pull the trigger, but nothing happened at first. Shortly after, I heard a loud gunshot, and I jumped up and found him on the floor, bleeding. I called for help and ran down to get the security guard.”
The police stated that they are investigating how the Brit came to be in possession of the revolver.
Police superintendent Anek Sathongyu said the victim appears to have seriously injured himself, but investigators have not ruled out the possibility of foul play.
The man remains in hospital in a critical condition as the investigation continues.
