Reggae Icon Jimmy Cliff Dies at 81

Renowned musician Jimmy Cliff has passed away at the age of 81, as confirmed by his spouse. He gained global recognition following his involvement in the movie “The Harder They Fall,” where he not only acted as the protagonist but also contributed to the film’s soundtrack, a move viewed by many as pivotal in introducing reggae music to the American audience. Among his notable hits are “You Can Get It If You Really Want” and “I Can See Clearly Now.”

The news of Cliff’s death was made public by his wife, Latifa Chambers, via a statement on Instagram. Chambers expressed deep sorrow, revealing that her husband succumbed to a seizure followed by pneumonia.

In her message, Chambers extended gratitude to Cliff’s family, friends, colleagues, and fans for their unwavering support throughout his illustrious career. She concluded with a heartfelt farewell, honoring his memory and promising to fulfill his wishes, a sentiment also endorsed by their children, Lilty and Aken.

Individuals are advised to remain vigilant for symptoms of pneumonia, an inflammatory condition of the lungs often triggered by infections. According to information from the NHS, most individuals recover within 2 to 4 weeks, but vulnerable populations such as infants, elderly individuals, and those with preexisting heart or lung issues face a higher risk of severe illness and may require hospital care.

The NHS website outlines key indicators to watch for, noting that symptoms can manifest suddenly, including prolonged coughing, coughing up blood, intermittent or breathing-related chest pain, and difficulty breathing.

Immediate medical attention is recommended if an individual experiences a chronic cough lasting over three weeks, coughs up blood, encounters chest discomfort while breathing or coughing, or feels breathless. In emergency cases, dial 999 for assistance.
