In her first game for Vancouver, Alex Lamontagne netted two goals as the Rise triumphed over the Ottawa Rapid 5-1 in Northern Super League action on Saturday in Ottawa. Anna Bout, Maithe Lopez, and Camila Reyes, converting a penalty shot, also found the back of the net for the Rise, who capitalized with three goals within a 10-minute period early in the second half, securing a comfortable victory at TD Place. Elise Bell managed to score for the Rapid in the 82nd minute, denying Jessica Wulf a clean sheet.
Following this win, the Rise climbed to fourth place in the league standings, edging past the Halifax Tide by a single point. The Rise now boast a record of seven wins, one draw, and nine losses, accumulating a total of 22 points. Despite the defeat, the first-place Rapid maintains a lead with 33 points, staying three points ahead of the Montreal Roses. The Rapid’s record now stands at 10 wins, four losses, and three draws.
The Rise held a slight edge in possession, controlling 53% of the game compared to the Rapid’s 47%. They also outshot their opponents 17-8, with 11 shots on target against the Rapid’s three. Vancouver earned four corner kicks compared to Ottawa’s three, and both teams received two yellow cards each.
Looking ahead, the Rise will host the Calgary Wild on Saturday, August 29, while the Rapid will travel to face AFC Toronto on Sunday, August 30.
