A 65-year-old individual is being charged with attempted murder by the RCMP for allegedly trying to suffocate an 80-year-old man with a pillow at a residence in Cape Wolfe, P.E.I.
According to a press release issued on Friday, the Prince District RCMP responded to a disturbance at the home around 3:20 a.m. on Thursday.
RCMP media relations officer Cpl. Gavin Moore stated that a third person heard the commotion and intervened to prevent the incident, potentially saving the life of the elderly man. Fortunately, the victim did not sustain any severe injuries, but the attack on a vulnerable individual during the night posed significant danger.
The suspect was apprehended without resistance, and it was revealed that he and the alleged victim were acquainted.
Following a court appearance in Summerside Provincial Court on Thursday, the 65-year-old was kept in custody and appeared in court again on Friday to address the attempted murder charge.
The investigation is ongoing, with the RCMP Major Crime Unit and Forensic Identification Section providing assistance.
