A 72-year-old man from Queens County passed away on Monday after a three-vehicle accident in Springvale, P.E.I. The incident involved a passenger car, a tractor-trailer, and a tow truck on Route 2 near Colville Road around 1:30 p.m., as per the Queens District RCMP.
Preliminary findings suggest that the passenger car rear-ended the tractor-trailer in front of it before colliding with the tow truck traveling in the opposite direction, stated the police in a news release issued Wednesday morning. The man, who was the only person in the car, was transported to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries.
Fortunately, no other individuals sustained serious injuries in the crash. Authorities mentioned that alcohol and drugs are not suspected to have contributed to the incident and confirmed that the inquiry is in progress.
Emergency services including Island EMS, North River Fire Department, and the Department of Transportation promptly responded to the accident scene.
