A soon-to-be father experienced a horrific decapitation followed by being eaten by an individual who believed he was defending the world from extraterrestrial beings.
Tim McLean, a Canadian carnival worker, was on his way to Winnipeg to visit his pregnant partner when Vincent Weiguang Li entered the bus. Witnesses noted Li appeared agitated but sat quietly at the front initially. However, Li later moved to sit beside Tim, who was dozing against the window at the rear of the bus. On July 30, 2008, Li initiated a violent attack on the expectant father, resulting in the severing of Tim’s ear, tongue, and nose, which were found in Li’s possession. Tragically, Tim’s heart and eyes were never recovered, with suspicions that Li consumed them. Despite the gruesome incident, Li is now a free man.
During the assault, a young veteran and the bus driver attempted to intervene, but their efforts were futile. The bus stopped, passengers fled, and Li prevented anyone from aiding Tim by brandishing a knife. He relentlessly stabbed Tim in the neck and chest before showcasing the severed head and consuming parts of the flesh in front of horrified onlookers. Law enforcement eventually arrived, and after a five-hour standoff, Li was subdued and apprehended.
Li claimed to have heard a divine directive instructing him to shield humanity from an alien attack, justifying his actions. Diagnosed with mental illness, Li was deemed not criminally responsible for the murder and was confined to a mental health facility.
Despite Li’s altered identity and freedom granted in 2017, the anguish lingers for Tim’s family. Tim’s mother expressed her disbelief in the leniency shown to Li, emphasizing the irrevocable harm caused. Tim’s father acknowledged the ongoing struggle to cope with the tragedy and doubted a full recovery was possible. Meanwhile, Tim’s son, born months after the incident, is perceived as a divine gift by Tim’s mother.
Li, now known as Will Lee Baker, resides in a Manitoba community, no longer subjected to regular monitoring or reviews.
