Tragic Bus-Truck Collision Near Egypt Beach Resort

Two individuals have lost their lives in a tragic incident involving a bus carrying tourists, including foreign visitors, colliding with a truck near a popular beach resort in Egypt. The crash occurred along the Ras Gharib-Hurghada road, located north of the Red Sea near Hurghada, resulting in injuries to 36 other individuals. Among the passengers on the bus, believed to be 24 foreign nationals, the nationalities of the deceased have not been disclosed by authorities yet.

Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene early in the morning and transported the injured individuals to hospitals in and around Hurghada, known for its picturesque sandy beaches and upscale hotels. According to officials, a coach owned by a Red Sea tourism company was traveling north from Hurghada when it collided with a heavy truck during the early hours. Tragically, the driver of the coach and another person onboard have been confirmed dead. Foreign nationals are among those critically injured, as reported by authorities.

Hurghada, situated approximately 290 miles south of Cairo, the capital of Egypt, can be reached via the Ras Gharib-Hurghada road in about five hours. The destination of the coach on the day of the accident remains unknown.

Traveling from Hurghada to the Pyramids of Giza typically takes around three hours, with travel companies often organizing coach excursions. In a separate recent incident, two individuals lost their lives when two passenger trains collided in Egypt’s Nile Delta, leaving around 30 others seriously injured, with some believed to be foreign nationals.

The collision occurred in the city of Zagazig, the capital of Sharqiya province, as confirmed by the country’s railway authority. Egypt’s Health Ministry had initially reported at least 29 injuries, with images showing a scene of chaos and concern among onlookers.

Following the collision, more than three dozen ambulances were dispatched to the site, with the injured individuals taken to Al-Ahrar and Zagazig University hospitals. The railway authority disclosed that the incident involved passenger train No 281 traveling from Zagazig to Ismailia and passenger train No 336 traveling from Mansoura to Zagazig.

Egypt frequently experiences train derailments and accidents due to an aging railway infrastructure and issues with management. Efforts have been made by the government in recent years to enhance the country’s railway system and safety standards.
