Mercedes’ head of communications has revealed that team principal Toto Wolff has been offering support to former driver Lewis Hamilton during a challenging season with Ferrari. The seven-time world champion has been struggling with an underperforming car and questionable race strategies since joining the team.
Hamilton’s difficulties were highlighted at the recent Qatar Grand Prix, where he faced elimination in the qualifying session and finished outside the points in 12th place. Currently ranked sixth in the drivers’ standings, Hamilton risks slipping to seventh after the final race in Abu Dhabi.
Expressing his frustration with the season, Hamilton described it as the “worst season ever,” despite his efforts both on and off the track. Recognizing his struggles, Mercedes has been providing personal support to the driver. Chief communications officer Bradley Lord mentioned that discussions have taken place to assist Hamilton through this tough period, with Wolff even accompanying him to race events.
In a statement to CHAMP1, Lord empathized with Hamilton’s situation and highlighted the team’s efforts to uplift him. He acknowledged Hamilton’s potential to bounce back stronger from this experience, indicating optimism for the upcoming season.
As Hamilton prepares for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, aiming to maintain his sixth-place position in the standings, he faces the challenge of driving the current problematic Ferrari model for the last time. Despite the setbacks, team principal Fred Vasseur has urged the team to remain focused on achieving success and learning from their mistakes.
Ferrari is determined to end the season positively before shifting their focus to the upcoming 2026 campaign.
