“Double Cold Weather Payments Issued in UK”

Double Cold Weather Payments have been distributed to select households this week following snowfall in certain UK regions. Cold Weather Payments, valued at £25 each, are granted when the temperature falls to zero degrees or below for seven consecutive days in the recipient’s area. In cases of prolonged cold spells, multiple payments can be received.

Eighteen postcode areas have now qualified for two Cold Weather Payments, totaling £50, triggered on December 30 and January 6. Eligibility for these payments is based on claiming certain benefits or mortgage support. If entitled, the payment is automatically deposited into the recipient’s bank account within 14 working days, except for those with newborns or children under five joining the household, who must apply.

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) administers the Cold Weather Payments scheme, scheduled to continue until March 31, 2026. Notably, Cold Weather Payments are not available in Scotland, where they have been substituted by the Winter Heating Payment worth £59.75.
