As the 35th world champion in F1 history, British driver Norris expressed his joy and relief after a period of uncertainty. He tearfully thanked his team over the radio, acknowledging their role in making his dreams a reality. McLaren team boss Zak Brown praised Norris and his teammate Oscar for their outstanding performance.
Heading into the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix with a 12-point lead over Verstappen, Norris faced a tense battle after McLaren’s strategic error allowed Verstappen to win the race. Despite Verstappen’s strong finish to the season with three consecutive victories, Norris maintained his lead to secure the championship.
Although Norris faced a stewards’ inquiry for a driving incident during the race, he escaped penalties. Verstappen, who won the race, fell short in his pursuit of a fifth title as Norris held onto his championship lead.
