“MP Faces Backlash Over False Funding Claims for Boxing Club”

Reform UK Member of Parliament Sarah Pochin faced allegations of making false claims about securing funding for a boxing club in her constituency. Pochin asserted in a now-deleted social media video that she had assisted Runcorn Amateur Boxing Club (ABC) in obtaining financial support to aid local youth. However, ABC refuted these assertions, stating that they had not received any funding from Reform.

The club demanded an apology from Pochin, emphasizing that they are an apolitical charity and had not authorized her to film at their premises. In a Facebook statement, ABC clarified that Pochin’s claims were unfounded and could potentially hinder their future funding prospects. Pochin later clarified that the funding she referred to was for Diverse Sports Runcorn (DSR) operating within ABC, but the two entities are distinct.

Despite an initial post claiming intervention in securing funding, Pochin eventually admitted that no additional funding had been procured for Runcorn ABC, clarifying that existing resources had been allocated for another year. The controversy sparked debate online, with ABC reinforcing its non-partisan stance and commitment to operating independently from political influences.

The ongoing dispute has raised concerns about the potential impact on the boxing club’s reputation and funding opportunities. Clarifications and retractions from both parties have attempted to address the misunderstanding surrounding the funding issue. This incident highlights the importance of accurate communication and transparency in dealings involving charitable organizations.
