Three-time world darts champion Michael van Gerwen has reignited his feud with his rival Peter Wright as they are set to face each other at this year’s PDC World Championship at Alexandra Palace, potentially in the third round.
Wright secured his spot in round two with a 3-0 win against Noa-Lynn van Leuven and is scheduled to play against Arno Merk next. On the other hand, Van Gerwen faced a tough challenge against Mitsuhiko Tatsunami but managed to secure a win and will now await the winner of the match between William O’Connor and Krzysztof Kciuk.
Following previous comments made by Wright about his eyesight, Van Gerwen retaliated after his victory over Tatsunami, expressing confidence in his vision and mocking Wright’s recent remarks.
Despite a shaky start in the match against Tatsunami, Van Gerwen rallied back to claim a 3-1 victory, acknowledging the difficulty of the game and his need to improve his performance.
Van Gerwen, who finished as the runner-up in the previous Ally Pally final, has faced personal challenges in 2025 following his separation from his wife earlier in the year. He emphasized the importance of focusing on his children during this period of his life.
As the World Darts Championship approaches, there is anticipation surrounding the defending champion Luke Littler and his upcoming clash with challenger Luke Humphries. The event promises an exciting lineup of competitors and features, including discussions with prominent figures in the darts world.
The championship, set to take place at a sold-out Ally Pally, will showcase a mix of established players and rising talents, adding to the thrill of the competition.
