Darts player Dom Taylor has publicly apologized for being dishonest about his drug use and shared his sorrow over the loss of his daughter. Taylor, aged 27, posted a lengthy statement on Facebook following his removal from the PDC World Championship.
The Darts Regulation Authority (DRA) disclosed that Taylor received a positive drug test result from December 14, leading to his suspension from the tournament. Despite winning his first-round match against Oskar Lukasiak, Taylor’s prize money was withheld, and his second-round opponent, Jonny Clayton, advanced to the next round due to Taylor’s suspension.
In his social media post, Taylor expressed regret for his behavior, which comes after a previous failed drug test before the 2025 Ally Pally tournament. He admitted to deceiving others and himself following his recent victory against Lukasiak.
Acknowledging his past suspension and completion of the required program, Taylor opened up about traumatic experiences in his teenage years that contributed to his struggles. He mentioned finding his deceased nan at a young age and other distressing events that impacted him deeply.
Taylor apologized to his family, friends, sponsors, and fans for his actions, emphasizing his desire to make them proud. He revealed that personal tragedies, including the anniversary of his daughter’s passing, led him to substance use as a coping mechanism. However, he plans to seek assistance after the holiday season to address his challenges.
Reflecting on missed opportunities for support and the toll of recent events, Taylor expressed his remorse and commitment to seeking help. Despite feeling the weight of his actions and the impact on his loved ones, he expressed gratitude for the support received and vowed to return stronger in the future.
