“Alert: EE mobile users targeted in scam text message resurgence”

EE mobile users are being cautioned about a resurgence of a scam text message. Cybersecurity experts at Bitdefender have flagged urgent messages that claim EE customers are at risk of losing thousands of reward points unless they take immediate action.

The scammers are posing as the popular EE network to entice individuals into clicking on malicious links that lead to fake websites. These fraudulent sites aim to steal login credentials for financial gain.

The success of this scam relies on creating a sense of urgency to prompt users into acting hastily without thinking it through. Bitdefender explains that scammers use a tactic of setting tight deadlines to make individuals feel like they are on the verge of losing something valuable.

Genuine alerts from EE will only appear within official accounts, not through unsolicited texts. Any message pressuring quick action or featuring a countdown should raise suspicion. Suspicious texts should be forwarded to 7726 and then deleted.

This type of scam has affected EE customers in the past, with reports of similar fake messages earlier this year. Users have shared experiences of falling for these scams, emphasizing the need for caution.

EE has clarified that they do not have a points program and has provided examples of scam messages circulating, urging users to be vigilant.

EE’s advice includes avoiding clicking on unknown links, refraining from replying to suspicious messages, not calling the provided numbers, and never sharing personal or financial information.

EE users are advised to stay alert and exercise caution to avoid falling victim to such scams.
