A woman suffered severe injuries after falling 20ft from a high-speed rollercoaster according to new CCTV footage. The incident occurred on the Jetline ride at Gröna Lund theme park in Stockholm, resulting in one fatality and nine injuries. Prosecutors are seeking an £1.4 million fine over safety concerns.
The newly released video captures the harrowing fall of Karin Elmegard, who underwent emergency surgery and continues to struggle with daily tasks. She recalls seeing an object fall from the ride before her own fall, causing panic among passengers. Her husband, Mikael, was trapped in the carriage as she plummeted.
Describing the aftermath as physically and mentally challenging, Ms. Elmegard expressed the difficulty of watching the footage and seeing her husband distressed. She credits landing on grass instead of a harder surface for her survival. Mikael hopes the trial will hold the theme park accountable for the incident.
The Jetline ride remains closed after the accident. Originally opened in 1988 and revamped in 1997 for a more intense experience, the ride reached speeds of up to 60mph with a peak g-force of 4.5. Both Gröna Lund and the ride’s maintenance companies deny any wrongdoing.
