“Oil Rig Worker Claims Seeing MH370 on Fire”

A man reported witnessing a Boeing 777, carrying 239 individuals, on fire, reigniting the mystery surrounding Malaysia Airlines Flight 370’s disappearance in 2014. The witness, a New Zealand oil rig worker named Mike McKay, observed what he believed to be MH370 ablaze while on a break at the Songa Mercur oil rig off the coast of Vietnam. McKay detailed the sighting in an email to his employers, describing the burning plane’s trajectory and positioning. Despite the leak of the email to the media, McKay prioritized the families of those onboard, questioning the discrepancies in the search efforts and radar data release timeline.

Vietnamese authorities launched search operations following McKay’s report, while recent search endeavors by Ocean Infinity were temporarily halted due to unfavorable weather conditions. Egyptair’s Chief Engineer, Ismail Hammad, proposed a cost-effective solution to locate MH370, expressing doubts about the authenticity of the plane wreckage found in the ocean. The search for the missing aircraft is yet to resume, with Malaysia’s Transport Minister indicating a potential restart later in the year.
