Tommy Fleetwood has expressed his approval of Brooks Koepka’s return to the PGA Tour and mentioned that LIV Golf has not shown interest in him during this postseason. Koepka, who recently left the Saudi-backed tour, will be competing in the upcoming Farmers Insurance Open, marking his comeback to the PGA Tour and boosting its profile.
With Koepka’s return, LIV Golf faces the challenge of retaining its other top players, as Patrick Reed has hinted at a potential return to the PGA Tour as well. Fleetwood, currently ranked No.3 in the world, praised the PGA Tour for its quality events and significant prize money, emphasizing his gratitude for being able to compete there.
Regarding his own career aspirations, Fleetwood aims for his first Major victory and emphasized the importance of aligning goals and dreams with the choice of tour. He highlighted the individual nature of players’ decisions in selecting where to compete based on where they feel they can best pursue their ambitions.
LIV Golf, supported by Newcastle’s Public Investment Fund, made substantial investments in previous seasons, including lucrative deals with players like Koepka and Jon Rahm. This year, the focus has shifted to lesser-known signings, including Victor Perez and Laurie Canter, indicating a potential change in strategy.
Fleetwood, despite being a sought-after player, noted that LIV Golf has not approached him recently, acknowledging the competitive landscape and the allure of the new league for some golfers. His Ryder Cup teammate, Shane Lowry, shared positive views on Koepka’s return to the PGA Tour and expressed his focus on playing to the best of his ability in any tournament he participates in.
