A councillor from the Reform UK party has been suspended following allegations that the party was concealing their strong stance on immigration. Lancashire County Council’s County Councillor Tom Pickup was suspended after messages attributed to him were shared by the Reform Party UK Exposed account, where he seemed to support mass deportations.
In the WhatsApp exchanges, Councillor Pickup, referred to as “Tom,” seemed to agree with another participant who stated that a majority of Brits favored mass deportations and stricter migration policies. Councillor Pickup mentioned the party’s forthcoming detailed immigration policy and the strategic approach taken during the party’s growth to avoid the failures of previous hardline parties.
Responding to the situation, a representative from the Labour Party in the county criticized the comments as “despicable.” The Labour Party called upon Reform UK to clarify their vetting process and issue an apology to the people of Lancashire for allowing such viewpoints within the party.
Reform UK faced internal disruptions, winning a council majority in Kent but subsequently suspending nine councillors. This development coincided with allegations against Nigel Farage for making racist and antisemitic remarks during his school days, which he denies.
Councillor Pickup welcomed the suspension and investigation, expressing anticipation for the truth to emerge. Reform UK has been contacted for a response.
