Fatal Crash Closes Major Highways, Traffic Delays

Two main highways were closed in both directions for several hours following a severe collision last night. Emergency services responded to an incident on the M60 at around 10:30 pm, leading to a closure of both the M60 and M66 with heavy traffic on the M62 westbound. The roads reopened around 11 am the next day after investigation work was completed.

Tragically, there was a fatality in the crash, with reports indicating that the deceased individual was a pedestrian. Greater Manchester Police are expected to provide further details on the incident later today.

Traffic conditions are gradually improving, with the M66 southbound and M66 northbound at Simister Island being reopened. However, the southbound carriageway remains closed for accident investigation work by specialized officers.

Motorists are advised to expect delays and follow diversion routes. Highways England confirmed the reopening of all lanes on the M60 between specific junctions after an earlier three-vehicle crash. Delays are still expected, with traffic moving slower than usual due to the earlier incident.

The situation is being closely monitored, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
