“Argos Introduces Manhattan S4-R: Free TV Alternative to Sky Q”

Argos is now offering a popular alternative to Sky Q with the introduction of the Manhattan S4-R set-top box. This device, which was recently launched, provides similar features to Sky’s premium service, such as recording shows, pausing live TV, and storing content on its internal hard drive.

The standout feature of the Manhattan S4-R is that it offers over 100 channels without any monthly fees, unlike Sky Q. By leveraging Freesat technology, the S4-R taps into existing satellite dishes to deliver free TV channels, including popular ones like BBC, ITV1, Channel 4, E4, and more.

The Manhattan S4-R boasts a user-friendly interface, built-in search functionalities, and access to a vast library of on-demand content totaling over 60,000 hours. Supported apps include BBC iPlayer, ITVX, Channel 4, and My5.

While it may not match Sky Q in premium sports and movie offerings, Freesat’s advantage lies in its cost-free viewing experience. The Manhattan S4-R 500GB model is currently available for £219.99 at retailers like Argos and Amazon, with larger 1TB and 2TB versions set to launch soon.

The COO of Manhattan, Alex Arbab-Zadeh, highlighted that the S4-R caters to households seeking a subscription-free TV solution with enhanced recording capabilities, allowing up to four simultaneous recordings.

In a similar move to challenge traditional TV providers, the Pleio puck has recently entered the market, providing access to over 50 live channels via the internet without requiring an aerial. Priced at £99.99, the Pleio puck includes a gaming controller and access to 200+ online games.

Sky has announced a 20% price reduction ahead of the upcoming World Cup, with Sky Glass Air TV starting at £4.50 per month. For the advanced Sky Glass Gen 2 model, which features a 4K Quantum Dot display and built-in Dolby Atmos soundbar, prices start from £11 per month.
