“Family of Four Dies in Istanbul Pesticide Tragedy”

A tragic incident unfolded during a family vacation in Istanbul, Turkey, resulting in the untimely deaths of a family of four, including two young children. The family, originally from Germany, had traveled to Istanbul for a holiday but fell ill just two days after arriving. The victims were identified as Cigdem Bocek, 27, her husband Servet, 38, and their children, Masal, three, and Kadir Muhammet, six.

The distressing event occurred after the family was exposed to a pesticide used for bed bug extermination in their hotel room. The father, in a desperate attempt to seek help, hailed a taxi and rushed his ailing family to the nearest hospital. Tragically, despite their efforts, the family succumbed to their illness and passed away in their hotel room.

Initially thought to be a case of food poisoning from local street food, the investigation took a different turn when authorities arrested 11 individuals, including hotel staff, suspecting the involvement of aluminium phosphide, a chemical used in bedbug treatment. It is believed that the toxic substance traveled through the ventilation system, causing the family’s poisoning.

The pest control firm responsible for the pesticide deployment at the hotel came under scrutiny, revealing lapses in certification among its workers. The hotel was evacuated, and authorities conducted thorough testing on various items for evidence. The tragic incident has prompted calls for justice from the family’s relatives, with demands for severe punishments for those responsible.

As investigations continue, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has assured that the authorities will conduct a thorough inquiry to determine the cause of the family’s tragic deaths. The community remains in shock and mourning over the devastating loss of the family, highlighting the urgent need for safety measures and accountability in pesticide use.
