“Family’s Urgent Plea: Trust Your Instincts in Health”

The family of a woman diagnosed with an unusual and rapidly spreading cancer is urging people to persist if they feel something is wrong. Lauren Carey, 30, is now working on fulfilling her ‘bucket list’ as her condition, squamous cell carcinoma of the bladder, has no cure.

Lauren’s sister Megan Carey, 28, advises individuals to seek multiple opinions if they doubt their medical diagnosis, especially after Lauren’s initial dismissal by doctors.

Regarding the medical care received, Megan criticized the doctors for their poor handling of the situation, emphasizing the importance of advocating for oneself when health concerns arise.

Lauren, a former supermarket manager from Banstead, Surrey, was born with a rare condition that caused her bladder to develop outside her body. Despite corrective surgery, ongoing issues led to the discovery of her cancer three years ago, linked to her long-term catheter use.

After surgeries to remove her bladder and address the cancer, the family recently learned that the cancer had returned and spread. Medical professionals informed them that no further treatment options were available.

Megan recalled how Lauren’s symptoms were repeatedly dismissed by doctors, leading to misdiagnoses. Despite their persistence, the cancer progressed rapidly, leaving them with limited time to create lasting memories.

To support Lauren’s wishes, Megan initiated a fundraiser to help fulfill her bucket list items, including memorable experiences with family and attending special events.

The fundraiser has already garnered significant support, but additional contributions are needed to cover the costs of their planned activities.

Megan expressed gratitude for the generosity shown, highlighting the importance of making cherished memories with her beloved sister during this challenging time.
