“Father of Rugby Star Rob Burrow, Geoff Burrow, Passes Away”

Geoff Burrow, the father of rugby league star Rob Burrow, has sadly passed away, as confirmed by Leeds Rhinos. Geoff played a significant role in the fundraising efforts following Rob’s diagnosis with motor neurone disease.

Leeds Rhinos expressed their sorrow at the loss of Geoff Burrow, stating that he had been unwell before his passing on March 30th. Geoff, a native of Leeds, tirelessly supported the MND community after Rob’s diagnosis in 2019 and continued his advocacy even after Rob’s death in 2024.

Described as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Geoff introduced Rob to rugby at Headingley, sparking his passion for the Rhinos. Throughout his career as a trade union representative, Geoff championed the voiceless. The club extended its deepest sympathies to Geoff’s wife Irene and the entire Burrow family during this difficult time.

Rob Burrow, a Leeds legend, fought MND until his passing in 2024, with support from his family and former teammate Kevin Sinfield, who undertook various physical challenges to raise funds. Their efforts led to the establishment of the Rob Burrow Centre for Motor Neurone Disease at Seacroft Hospital in Leeds, which opened in November 2025.

Expressing gratitude for the fundraising support, Geoff emphasized the importance of the center for MND patients, families, and the dedicated staff. He played a crucial role in caring for Rob and their children to enable Rob’s wife Lindsey to continue working as an NHS physiotherapist.

Messages of love and support poured in from rugby clubs like Warrington Wolves, Wigan Warriors, and St Helens for the Burrow family during this challenging period. Geoff’s passing marks a significant loss, and his legacy in raising awareness for MND will be remembered.
