Irish Boxer Glenn Byrne Shows Resilience After Defeat

Glenn Byrne displayed high spirits, engaging in conversations and laughter, after being hospitalized following his defeat to William Crolla on Friday night. The Irish boxer suffered his first professional loss as Crolla, the brother of former WBA lightweight champion Anthony, secured a seventh-round knockout victory at Planet Ice, Altrincham.

Despite Byrne knocking down Crolla multiple times in the second and fifth rounds, the fight continued, leading to Crolla’s eventual win, improving his record to 10-1 while Byrne’s record now stands at 7-1-1. Concern arose post-fight as Byrne received medical attention in the ring before being taken to the hospital.

Managed by his brother and former boxer Jay Byrne, Glenn Byrne, who is 29 years old, was reported to be in good spirits awaiting the results of a CT scan. Jay Byrne’s JB Promotions provided an update on Glenn via Instagram, appreciating the well-wishes received and expressing frustration at the referee’s handling of the match.

Promoter Eddie Hearn acknowledged the potential career-ending implications for Crolla had he lost, praising both fighters for their warrior spirits. Crolla extended his condolences to Byrne, recognizing his opponent’s brave performance in the ring.
