“Teen in Russia Kills Mother Over Social Media Ban”

A 13-year-old girl in Russia allegedly murdered her mother after being forbidden from using social media. Reports suggest that Svetlana Cheglyakova, 46, took away her daughter’s phone following an argument over the girl’s excessive online activity.

The teenager reportedly slit her mother’s throat, self-inflicted cuts on her hands, and then set fire to their St. Petersburg apartment. Initially, the girl claimed that an intruder had attacked them, but investigators suspect she reenacted a scenario from online games she had played.

During police questioning, the girl confessed to stabbing her mother in the neck during a dispute about her internet usage. She also accused her deceased mother of being controlling and abusive, stating that the woman restricted her interactions with friends and closely monitored her activities, including her presence on social media platforms like TikTok and Roblox.

Law enforcement sources noted that the girl’s actions did not align with typical gameplay behavior. The report indicated that she simulated her mother’s murder and the subsequent cover-up. The child, who comes from a single-parent household due to her parents’ separation, is currently hospitalized.

Although a criminal case for murder has been opened by the Russian Investigative Committee, the girl, being below the age of criminal responsibility in Russia, cannot be prosecuted for her mother’s death.
