Sergio Garcia received an official warning from Augusta National after causing damage to a tee box and breaking his driver during the final round of the Masters tournament.
Garcia, who had been struggling throughout the week, expressed his frustration at his performance. His anger peaked when he hit a poor shot on the second hole on Sunday, leading him to aggressively slam his driver to the ground, causing it to break. This forced him to play the remainder of the round without a driver.
Despite his challenging day, Garcia managed to finish two over par for the day and seven over for the tournament by the 10th hole. Viewers were critical of his behavior, prompting officials to intervene. Geoff Yang, the head of the competition committee at the Masters, issued Garcia an official code of conduct warning.
The 46-year-old, a past winner of the tournament, had been struggling with his form coming into Augusta. Garcia’s disappointing performance in the LIV Golf season had already cast a shadow over his confidence. He admitted his dissatisfaction with his game, stating, “Not super happy at the moment, but we’re working on it.”
Garcia’s incident was not the only one to draw attention to player behavior during the tournament. Another golfer, Bob MacIntyre, also faced disciplinary action for his conduct on the course. MacIntyre’s frustrations led him to display inappropriate gestures during his round, resulting in a reprimand.
As the Masters unfolded, it became clear that maintaining composure under pressure was crucial for players, with both Garcia and MacIntyre facing consequences for their actions.
