Luke Littler has acknowledged that he has yet to engage in a conversation with Gian van Veen in an effort to resolve their heated disagreement. The clash between the two occurred on night nine of the Premier League in Manchester three weeks ago.
Following a controversial victory by Van Veen against the two-time world champion, the Dutch player accused Littler of displaying unsportsmanlike behavior by celebrating towards the audience when he missed crucial darts. Since then, tensions have persisted, with Littler confirming after a win on night 12 in Manchester that they are still not communicating.
Littler stated, “No, we have not spoken, but I’m not inclined to initiate a conversation with him. Perhaps he expects me to make the first move, but that’s not my style. Even in the practice room, others approach me first. I’m not one to engage in idle chatter.”
He continued, “We can settle our differences on the dartboard. Backstage, everything has been normal, with our usual preparation routines. I believe he has moved on from the incident, and so have I. If the need arises to talk, I will.”
Regarding the recent reception Littler received in Liverpool, he noted that while it was hostile, it did not compare to the intense booing he faced in Rotterdam earlier in the month. He emphasized his focus on the game and his determination to win under challenging circumstances.
Looking ahead, the Premier League will resume in Aberdeen next week. Littler is scheduled to face Josh Rock in the quarter-finals, while Van Veen will compete against Jonny Clayton.
