“Canada Advances to Flag Football World Championships Quarterfinals”

Canada’s male and female teams progressed to the quarterfinals of the flag football world championships in Germany on Friday after overcoming Japan in their final round-robin matchups. The men secured a 37-28 victory, securing second place in their group with a 2-1 record. Originally set to face Nigeria, the Canadian team received an automatic win as Nigeria withdrew due to visa issues. Their next challenge will be against American Samoa in the quarterfinals on Saturday.

On the other hand, the women topped their group with a flawless 3-0 record after a convincing 34-20 win. They are now set to face Austria in the quarterfinals on Saturday.

Besides contending for the world title, teams are also vying for a chance to compete in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games. The top two teams at the world championships will secure spots in the Olympics, marking the sport’s debut in the Games.

Don’t miss any of the action as all matches of the event will be live-streamed on CBCSports.ca and on CBC Gem.
