A blaze in Naujaat, Nunavut, has caused damage to construction supplies designated for a public housing project in the area, although the territory’s housing corporation has mentioned that it is too early to determine if this will impact the project’s schedule. The fire erupted near the hamlet’s waterfront on Wednesday evening, prompting an immediate response from Naujaat’s fire department, according to an email from Chantal Pelletier, the senior administrative officer.
The Nunavut Housing Corporation (NHC) confirmed that the construction materials were meant for an eight-unit public housing initiative. A representative stated in an email that they are awaiting the fire chief’s assessment and collaborating with the project contractor and local officials to evaluate the extent of the destruction.
The completion date for the eight-unit complex is set for June 2027. The spokesperson mentioned that it is premature to gauge the impact of the fire on this timeline. Meanwhile, the RCMP spokesperson, responding via email, indicated that there is no information available regarding the cause of the fire or whether an investigation is underway.
