“Unreleased Terry Fox Footage Revealed in ‘Run Terry Run'”

A new documentary trailer showcasing previously unreleased footage of Terry Fox has been unveiled today, a month before its debut at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). Titled “Run Terry Run,” the documentary provides an intimate portrayal of Terry Fox’s 1980 Marathon of Hope using nearly 100 recently discovered reels of archival footage.

The trailer includes insights from key figures such as van driver Doug Alward, Terry Fox’s brother Darrell Fox, and Terry Fox himself as he embarked on his cross-Canada run to raise funds for cancer research. The recovered footage, shot by filmmaker John Simpson and restored to 4K quality by Toronto director Sean Menard, offers a rare glimpse into Fox’s journey.

The film, devoid of traditional interviews, features voiceovers from notable individuals such as Leslie Scrivener and Darryl Sittler, highlighting Fox’s enduring impact. Despite Fox’s untimely passing in 1981, his inspirational run raised over $24 million and continues to fuel cancer research efforts, with the Terry Fox Foundation surpassing $1 billion in funds raised earlier this year.

“Run Terry Run” is set to premiere at TIFF on September 19, coinciding with the 46th annual Terry Fox Run, and will hit theaters on October 9, 2026. The documentary captures Fox’s transformation from a young, ambitious runner to a global icon navigating newfound fame while staying true to his cause. Accompanied by an original score from composer Tom Caffey, known for his work on “The Last Dance,” the film promises to offer a moving tribute to Terry Fox’s enduring legacy.
