Iran dismisses Trump’s “Economic Warfare” threats

Iran’s Foreign Minister has dismissed recent threats from U.S. President Donald Trump, who announced intentions to initiate the “MOST CRUSHING ECONOMIC OPERATION EVER TAKEN” against Iran. In response, Abbas Araghchi stated that Trump’s “so-called ‘Economic D-Day’ is a diversion from America’s mounting debt and rising interest costs. Persisting with failed strategies will only lead to further setbacks and animosity towards Iranians. The U.S.’s economic aggression poses risks to the global economy and sovereignty worldwide,” Araghchi emphasized.

Trump’s declaration of unleashing “Economic Warfare and Isolation on an unprecedented scale” against Iran came after failed attempts to secure a lasting agreement to end the protracted conflict. The U.S. president warned countries, through a post on his Truth Social account, about facing “TREMENDOUS Economic Consequences” if they extend support to Iran. Trump urged allies to join forces with the United States to isolate and overcome the perceived threat from Iran.

China, a significant buyer of Iran’s oil, faces potential repercussions if the U.S. proceeds with further economic hostilities against Iran. In response to Trump’s economic threats, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian urged for a responsible approach, emphasizing that sanctions and pressure tactics are not the solution. Jian called for a political and diplomatic resolution to the escalating tensions.

Dan Shapiro, a former U.S. ambassador to Israel and distinguished fellow at the Atlantic Council, criticized Trump’s approach, highlighting that Iran possesses the capability to withstand and retaliate against economic pressures. Shapiro noted the need for a shift in strategy to avoid a dead-end situation created by ongoing confrontations. The conflict between Iran and the U.S. has resulted in severe economic sanctions on Iran, with peace negotiations yielding little progress and numerous casualties. Despite the expiration of a 60-day negotiating period without an extension, there is a possibility of future talks to resolve the conflict.
