Students at a primary school in Moosonee, Ontario, will be commencing the academic year with online classes due to a lack of staff. The CEO of the Northeastern Catholic District School Board, Tricia Stefanic Weltz, informed parents through a letter that they have not been able to secure the necessary administrative leadership and office staff to ensure the safe daily operation of Bishop Belleau School (BBS).
Current job postings on the school board’s website indicate that the school is still in need of a principal. Additionally, the board is actively seeking a temporary school secretary, educational assistant, and temporary educational assistant for the junior kindergarten to Grade 8 institution situated in the close-knit community near the James Bay coast.
Weltz emphasized in her communication to parents that the choice to opt for virtual learning at the start of the school year was a carefully considered decision, underscoring the school board’s unwavering commitment to prioritizing student safety.
Despite attempts to obtain a response from the Northeastern Catholic District School Board, CBC News did not receive a reply by the given deadline.
