Canadian athlete Marco Arop secured the fourth position at the recent Diamond League track and field event held at Stade Olympique de la Pontaise in Lausanne, Switzerland. Arop took an early lead and was ahead of the pack going into the final lap but couldn’t maintain the pace, finishing just outside the top three with a time of 1:43.18.
The race was won by Kenya’s Emmanuel Wanyonyi in 1:42.19, followed by Djamel Sedjati from Algeria with a season-best time of 1:42.31. American runner Brandon Miller claimed the third spot with a time of 1:42.55.
Last year, Arop and shot putter Sarah Mitton were the only Canadians to qualify for the Diamond League Final in Zurich, where they both finished third. Arop was in a strong position to qualify for this year’s Final, sitting second in the men’s 800m Diamond League standings behind Wanyonyi.
The 2026 Wanda Diamond League Final is scheduled to take place on September 4–5 in Brussels, Belgium.
In the women’s 200m race, American Kayla White emerged victorious with a time of 22.18 seconds. Great Britain’s Amy Hunt narrowly beat Nigeria’s Favour Ofili for the second spot, with both clocking in at 22.32 seconds. Unfortunately, Jamaica’s Shericka Jackson, a two-time world champion, had to withdraw from the race due to an injury.
The upcoming men’s 200m race will feature Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo, the reigning Olympic champion.
