“Special Weather Alert: Heavy Rainfall Forecast for GTA”

Environment Canada has issued a special weather alert for heavy rainfall expected in the Greater Toronto Area, as well as the Peel and Durham regions over the upcoming weekend. The national weather agency predicts that local rainfall totals could surpass 50 millimetres, with the precipitation starting on Saturday morning and continuing into early Sunday.

Initial showers and thunderstorms are anticipated to form in southwestern Ontario on Saturday morning before moving towards the Greater Golden Horseshoe by the afternoon, as outlined by Environment Canada. On Sunday, additional showers are forecasted for areas east of Lake Huron and Georgian Bay.

The slow-moving nature of the showers and thunderstorms may lead to multiple rounds of precipitation in certain areas, though rainfall levels will differ throughout the region. Environment Canada notes that there is uncertainty regarding the exact locations that will receive the heaviest rainfall.

Residents are advised to steer clear of low-lying regions and be cautious of potential washouts near rivers, creeks, and culverts. Environment Canada emphasizes the importance of avoiding flooded roads and warns that water accumulation may occur on roadways situated in low-lying areas.
