A trio of siblings in Stratford, namely Lincoln, Leo, and Camilla, have transformed their summer sweet corn harvest into a rewarding entrepreneurial venture. The children, aged 12, 10, and 5, have diligently planted, tended to, and harvested their crop, now offering it for sale at a self-serve stand on St. Vincent St. South.
Each day, Lincoln and Leo arrange the freshly picked corn in an eye-catching display, set up the stand by the roadside, and facilitate sales through various means, including an e-transfer option. By early evening, their stock is typically sold out, a testament to the community’s appreciation for their produce.
Their mother, Jodi Hart, initiated the project to instill financial literacy and a strong work ethic in her children. Despite occasional disagreements and sacrifices like foregoing social gatherings to focus on corn picking, the siblings have learned valuable lessons in teamwork and conflict resolution.
For Lincoln, witnessing the local community relish their corn is a gratifying experience. He intends to save most of his earnings while considering indulging in a few ice cream treats. Beyond the financial gains, the stand has provided the children with a hands-on education in cultivation, collaboration, and community engagement.
