Canada’s Camryn Rogers emerged victorious in the women’s hammer throw event at the recent Diamond League meet held at the sprawling Silesian Stadium in Chorzow, Poland. The athlete from Richmond, B.C., showcased her talent with an impressive throw measuring 77.09 meters on her fourth attempt. Rogers, who holds the titles of Olympic, world, and Commonwealth Games champion, solidified her dominance in the competition.
DeAnna Price of the United States secured the second spot with a throw of 75.23 meters, while Sara Fantini from Italy clinched the third position with a distance of 71.95 meters. The Canadian hammer throw success continued with Ethan Katzberg from Nanaimo, B.C., claiming victory in the men’s event by achieving a best throw of 82.92 meters. Katzberg, now a holder of Olympic, world, and Commonwealth Games titles, showcased an impressive performance.
Merlin Hummel from Germany finished second with a throw of 81.25 meters, followed by Bence Halász from Hungary in third place with a distance of 79.44 meters. The event featured a competitive field, with athletes from various countries vying for top positions.
Looking ahead, Andre De Grasse is set to compete in a highly anticipated men’s 100m race, featuring a strong lineup of 18 sprinters. The women’s 100m race is equally competitive, with notable athletes such as Sha’Carri Richardson, Julien Alfred from Saint Lucia, Melissa Jefferson-Wooden from the United States, Zoe Hobbs from New Zealand, and Tina Clayton. The global track and field season will culminate with the upcoming World Athletics Ultimate Championship scheduled to take place from September 11-13 in Budapest.
Katzberg has secured automatic qualification for the Ultimate Championship as the reigning Olympic and world champion in the men’s hammer throw category. However, Rogers, despite her impressive achievements as the Olympic, world, and Commonwealth Games champion in women’s hammer throw, will not participate in the championship as this event is not included in the competition program.
