A part of Highway 6 in the Flamborough area of Hamilton is currently shut down due to a collision involving a commercial vehicle, as per the police. The closure spans from Freelton Road to Concession 11 E. near Freelton, as stated in a social media update by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).
In the early hours, around 3:30 a.m., a tractor trailer transporting steel crashed into a construction barrier, veered across all lanes, and collided with the opposite barrier, causing a diesel spill into the roadside ditch. This incident led to a complete road closure. The crash occurred within a construction zone where certain lanes were already closed for maintenance purposes, according to law enforcement.
The OPP announced at 4:44 a.m. on Monday that a lengthy closure is expected to facilitate investigations and cleaning activities. Motorists are advised to seek alternative routes during this time. The road is anticipated to reopen by 10 a.m., as mentioned by the police.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported, although charges are likely to be filed, as per the OPP. They emphasized the importance of reducing speed and staying alert while passing through construction zones.
