The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) apprehended two Air Canada workers on Wednesday for suspected involvement in facilitating the movement of cocaine and cannabis through Montreal’s Trudeau International Airport. The federal law enforcement agency disclosed in a press release on Wednesday morning that it is carrying out search warrants at two residences, a vehicle, and the work location of the Air Canada employees in Dorval, Quebec, in collaboration with the airline.
The RCMP stated that the two individuals, who are part of the ground operations team at Air Canada, are believed to have conspired to transport luggage through secure airport areas to aid in importing cocaine and exporting cannabis.
The investigation was initiated in May following the interception of 62.5 kilograms of cocaine concealed in backpacks from a flight originating from Punta Cana. Additionally, 56 kilograms of cannabis were seized during the course of the probe.
The RCMP mentioned that the arrested suspects will undergo questioning and be released pending further legal actions. The investigation remains active and ongoing.
