“Single Candidate for Mayor in Fauquier-Strickland”

The municipality of Fauquier-Strickland in Ontario has finalized its list of candidates for the upcoming local council elections. Initially, no individuals had come forward to run for mayor or the four council positions before the original nomination deadline. However, after extending the nomination period, the township now has certified candidates for all roles.

Pierre Lamontagne, a current council member, is the sole candidate running for mayor. The council candidate lineup includes Gaetan Gagnon, Bruce Kitching, Nicole Lamontagne, Priscilla Marcoux, and Juanita Miscio.

The decision by Pierre Lamontagne to run for mayor stemmed from a lack of other contenders stepping up. He expressed his determination to contribute positively to the municipality, emphasizing his belief in being able to make a difference.

The election scenario in Fauquier-Strickland is notable given the community’s ongoing financial challenges, with the township grappling with a significant debt of about $5 million. The financial strain has led to increased taxes and tough decisions being made to address the situation.

Despite the difficulties, Lamontagne sees the upcoming term as an opportunity for the township to recover and stabilize its financial standing. He acknowledged the community’s frustrations and highlighted the importance of working together to overcome the current challenges.

The election is set to take place on October 26, offering a chance for residents to vote for the candidates who will lead the township through its recovery process.
