Winnipeg Jets’ star goaltender, Connor Hellebuyck, a three-time Vezina Trophy winner and Olympic gold medalist, has made a public trade request. In a statement released by his agent on Thursday, Hellebuyck confirmed that he had privately asked the Jets for a trade several months ago.
In his statement, Hellebuyck expressed that he had handled the situation discreetly, giving the organization time to consider its options. However, with the approach of training camp, he felt it was necessary to publicly acknowledge his trade request. He emphasized that his stance remains unchanged, believing that moving on is the best decision for himself and his family. Hellebuyck expressed gratitude towards Winnipeg Jets fans for their support throughout his career and hoped for a swift resolution.
Originally from Michigan, Hellebuyck achieved a remarkable milestone by being named both the league’s MVP and top goalie following the 2024-25 NHL season, during which the Jets secured the franchise’s first-ever best record. Additionally, he recalled the Jets drafting him in the fifth round of the NHL draft in June 2012 and mentioned his commitment to proving their choice right.
Notably, Hellebuyck received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from U.S. President Donald Trump earlier this year for his outstanding performance in the Olympic gold-medal game against Canada at the Milano-Cortina Winter Games. This prestigious award is the highest civilian honor for American citizens. Hellebuyck has also been a Vezina Trophy finalist on five occasions.
