Jinny Greaves, the executive director of the P.E.I. Literacy Alliance, emphasized the significance of Parton’s contributions to children’s literacy. Parton established the Imagination Library in 1995, a program that offers free books to children under five through mail. The initiative, inspired by Parton’s father’s illiteracy, expanded to P.E.I. in 2020 and is overseen by the P.E.I. Literacy Alliance.
Greaves highlighted Parton’s personal motivation, as she grew up without access to books due to her father’s inability to read. The Imagination Library’s impact in P.E.I. is evident from the alliance’s report, showing increased book access and enhanced family reading practices.
Despite initial funding cuts in 2026, the province reversed its decision following public outcry, ensuring the continuation of the Imagination Library on P.E.I. Greaves praised Parton for her enduring influence and grace, urging others to emulate her leadership and compassion in promoting literacy for children.
