“Elections Quebec to Provide Documents in French Only”

In a significant move, Élections Québec announced that for the upcoming general election, voters will receive information documents exclusively in French to adhere to Quebec’s language laws. While traditionally sent in French, the documents will now include a QR code directing voters to the agency’s English website for those seeking information in English.

Élections Québec clarified that only Indigenous voters and individuals eligible for English instruction can request their documents and services in English. The legislation, enacted in 2022, aims to safeguard French as the primary language for public institutions.

According to Élections Québec, voters can expect to receive the provincial election guide and notice of entry, detailing voting locations and procedures, by the week of Sept. 14. Reminder cards will be dispatched the following week, with the election scheduled for October 5.
