Atlético Madrid has secured a loan deal for Canadian striker Jonathan David from Juventus in Italy for the upcoming season, as confirmed by both clubs on Tuesday. The 26-year-old, hailing from Ottawa, featured in 46 matches for Juventus last season, netting eight goals, and has also made one appearance in the current campaign.
David will be vying for playing time in Madrid alongside Julián Alvarez and Alexander Sørloth, who have been sidelined due to a muscle injury at the beginning of the season. Previously, he showcased his talent at Lille in France, scoring 109 goals in 232 games and clinching the Ligue 1 title and the French Super Cup before making the move to Juventus in 2025.
With 42 goals to his name, David holds the record as Canada’s all-time leading men’s scorer and will now be part of Atlético Ottawa’s parent team in the Canadian Premier League.
Atlético Madrid’s upcoming matches include a fixture against Athletic Club this Saturday and a showdown with Liverpool in the Champions League on September 9.
