Netflix Announces “The One About Matthew Perry”

After Matthew Perry’s passing in 2023, fans were faced with the challenge of reconciling the revelations about his ketamine addiction with his beloved sitcom character, Chandler Bing. To shed light on the complexity of the Canadian actor’s life, Netflix has announced a forthcoming three-part docuseries titled “The One About Matthew Perry.”

The series will delve into Perry’s evolution from an up-and-coming comedic talent to his iconic role on the popular NBC show. It will feature never-before-heard accounts from his inner circle, including close friends and his sister, Mia Perry Bowick, a grief-focused psychotherapist who has publicly shared her emotional journey following Perry’s death.

Reflecting on her relationship with Perry, Bowick expressed, “It’s taken time for me to feel ready to share these memories and what it was like to love Matthew through all the complexity of his life — to see him as a whole person, not just as Chandler, and not just as someone who struggled with addiction.”

Tragically, Perry was discovered deceased from a ketamine overdose in his backyard hot tub at the age of 54. Several individuals have pleaded guilty to charges related to supplying him with the substance, including Dr. Salvador Plasencia, who is currently appealing his 30-month prison sentence for selling ketamine to Perry.

Netflix has assured viewers that the docuseries will not only feature fond reminiscences from Perry’s admirers but will also provide “candid new details on his private struggles, honoring the legacy of honesty and advocacy he leaves behind.” The eagerly anticipated series is set to debut on Oct. 27.
