Alanis Morrisette has taken legal action against her former tour manager, accusing her of engaging in a deliberate extortion scheme to falsely implicate the singer in drug trafficking if she did not agree to hire her for an extended contract. The lawsuit, filed in California, alleges that Keren Urinov threatened to report Morrisette to British authorities for drug-related offenses unless she agreed to employ her as a tour director for a 15-year term and provide substantial compensation.
Morrisette is suing Urinov for civil extortion, fraud, and negligent misrepresentation, asserting that she will not be coerced into succumbing to the demands of her blackmailer and is determined to hold her accountable for her actions.
The dispute stems from an incident in July 2025 when Urinov, who had been hired as a temporary tour manager for Morrisette’s world tour, was arrested at an airport in the UK after a bag containing marijuana and xylazine was flagged by authorities. Despite Urinov’s admission of ownership and subsequent release, she allegedly attempted to leverage the situation by sending threatening letters to Morrisette, demanding a long-term contract, substantial income, and assistance with obtaining a work visa for the United States.
The lawsuit also highlights instances where Urinov’s management of the tour was deemed subpar, citing costly errors and misleading disclosures about her past. Morrisette, feeling compelled to take legal action, states that she refuses to collaborate with an incompetent individual engaging in blackmail tactics and is seeking justice through a jury trial.
Attempts to reach representatives for Morrisette for comment on the matter have not yet been successful.
