The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) confirmed a fatality resulting from a vehicle striking a pedestrian on Highway 417 during Wednesday evening. Responding to a call at 8:15 p.m., officers arrived at the scene on the eastbound lanes of Highway 417 near Parkdale Avenue. Following the collision, paramedics transported a man to the hospital in critical condition, as confirmed by Ottawa Paramedic Service spokesperson Marc-Antoine Deschamps on Wednesday.
By Thursday morning, OPP announced the pedestrian’s unfortunate demise in a mishap involving a local transit bus. A representative from OC Transpo acknowledged being informed of an incident with an out-of-service bus on Highway 417, pledging cooperation with emergency services and launching an investigation into the matter.
The roadway’s eastbound lanes were cleared for traffic around 12:40 a.m. on Thursday, as indicated in a social media update by the OPP.
