Despite this, the Canadian actor revealed that he has not received any new acting opportunities following the success of the film. Page shared this information during a recent interview on the podcast On Film… With Kevin McCarthy.
During the podcast, when asked about his upcoming projects and whether he was inundated with offers post the movie’s release, Page responded, stating that he had not been flooded with casting calls as expected. His portrayal of the Greek soldier Sinon in The Odyssey garnered attention for its compelling depiction of the character, who meets an untimely demise in Odysseus’s strategic maneuvers and later delivers a poignant monologue from the afterlife.
Addressing the controversy surrounding his rumored casting as Achilles, Page humorously referenced the unwarranted backlash he faced due to his Canadian nationality and the false claims made by certain right-wing figures like Ben Shapiro and Megyn Kelly. Despite the misconceptions, Page’s talent and versatility have long been recognized in the industry, including his notable roles in films such as Juno, Inception, and Hard Candy.
Having publicly come out as transgender in 2020, Page has been vocal about advocating for LGBTQ+ rights and combating anti-trans sentiments in both the U.S. and Canada. He emphasized the importance of authenticity and acceptance for transgender individuals during a candid interview with CBC in 2023.
In discussing his future career aspirations, Page expressed his eagerness to explore diverse roles and his newfound confidence in his craft post transitioning. Reflecting on his experience working with Nolan on Inception, where he portrayed a female character, Page noted a significant shift in his comfort level and personal growth since then. Similarly, his co-star Samantha Morton, who portrayed Circe in The Odyssey, disclosed her own challenges in securing acting opportunities post the film’s success, citing industry dynamics and age-related factors.
Despite the temporary lull in incoming offers, both Page and Morton remain optimistic about their artistic journeys and the evolving landscape of the entertainment industry.
