Several individuals sustained injuries in a collision involving two vehicles in Stratford, P.E.I., on Wednesday evening. Authorities are in search of one of the drivers who fled the accident scene.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) were called to the head-on collision on Stratford Road around 8:44 p.m., as per a news release issued on Thursday. Initial findings suggest that a blue Chevrolet Equinox veered across the center line while heading towards the Hillsborough Bridge, resulting in a crash with an oncoming SUV. Alcohol consumption and excessive speed are suspected factors in the incident.
Cpl. Gavin Moore, the media relations officer for the P.E.I. RCMP, mentioned, “The SUV that was hit by the Equinox was carrying five passengers. Fortunately, none of the occupants sustained severe injuries.” The five individuals suffered minor injuries, while the driver of the Equinox absconded from the scene. The passenger in the Equinox was transported to a hospital with critical injuries.
Despite a search by a police service dog, the driver, described as a middle-aged man around five feet six inches tall with probable facial injuries, remains at large. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities urging anyone with pertinent details to come forward to aid in the probe.
Moore emphasized the importance of gathering substantial evidence to comprehend the sequence of events accurately. He highlighted the significance of community cooperation in providing any relevant information or footage that could help track down the driver.
