Niagara Falls and Buffalo, New York, are showing strong camaraderie amidst a tense trade war situation. Niagara Falls Tourism recently published a full-page open letter in the Buffalo News, inviting Americans to join in the celebration with Ontario’s border neighbors on Saturday night. The iconic Niagara Falls will be illuminated in the red, white, and blue colors associated with the NFL’s Buffalo Bills, complemented by fireworks in matching hues.
During the recent home opener at the new Highmark Stadium on September 17, the Buffalo Bills featured a rendition of “O Canada” by the Barenaked Ladies, and actress Auliʻi Cravalho performed “The Star-Spangled Banner.” Canadians across the country joined in singing along to the anthem, showcasing a strong bond between the two regions.
In a reciprocal gesture, Visit Buffalo displayed billboards across southern Ontario with the message, “O Canada, We’re Still Singing it, Love Buffalo.” Additionally, a video posted by the team on social media showed retired Bills quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick and former wide receiver Stevie Johnson engaging in cross-border football catches along the Niagara River.
Adam Stiles, interim president and CEO of Niagara Falls Tourism, expressed gratitude for the kind gestures from Buffalo, emphasizing the importance of unity amidst prevailing political challenges. He highlighted the significance of rallying around gestures of goodwill, stating, “We just want to say thank you for doing something nice for us.”
The special illumination of Niagara Falls in the Bills’ colors is scheduled for Saturday night between 10 p.m. and 10:15 p.m. ET, followed by fireworks from 10 p.m. to 10:05 p.m., serving as a token of appreciation and a warm welcome to American neighbors in Niagara Falls, Canada.
