“Toronto Sixers Win Canada Super60 Cricket League Titles”

The Toronto Sixers secured victory in the Canada Super60 Cricket League women’s final at B.C. Place in Vancouver, defeating the Vancouver Warriors by six wickets and three balls to spare. Despite a shaky start, the Sixers managed to chase down a target of 85 runs, with Ella McCaughan’s unbeaten 36 off 20 balls turning the game around after their earlier loss to Vancouver.

In the men’s league, the undefeated Mississauga Masters dominated with a 92-run win against the Toronto Sixers, finishing the round-robin stage with a flawless 5-0 record. Both teams, along with the Vancouver Anchors and Brampton Blitz, progressed to the semifinals, with the final scheduled for the same day.

The matches were broadcast live on CBC Sports Primetime, the network’s new flagship sports show hosted by Andi Petrillo. The Canada Super60 league features a condensed version of cricket, with matches lasting approximately 90 minutes and each team facing up to 60 balls. The league comprises six men’s teams and three women’s teams, with a mix of Canadian and international players like Kieron Pollard and Marizanne Kapp.

Vancouver opted to bat first but collapsed after a promising start, finishing at 84/9. Toronto’s response was challenging initially, but McCaughan’s explosive batting turned the tide, leading the Sixers to victory. Toronto claimed the Sana Mir Trophy in the women’s final.

In the earlier men’s match, Mississauga’s Alex Lees set the tone with a blistering 70 off 24 balls, guiding his team to victory. Despite a late flourish by Toronto’s Kieron Pollard, the Sixers fell short in their chase. CBC Sports Primetime will continue to showcase major sporting events and highlight Canada’s high-performance athletes, including coverage of Olympic sports.
